Sewing for Kids
This sewing for kids group will cover all of the sewing basics and get them knowing their way around a sewing machine. Learn how to make a lined tote bag with the bagging technique, do box corners, zips, and buttons with a view to moving on to making basic clothing in a more advanced class. 1 hours tuition a week for just £10 (payable in 3 week blocks), materials included.
We have one group of home educated children and one class after school.
The after school class is at 6.30-7.30pm on a Tuesday. The next bitesized terms are:
Term 2: Tuesday 28th January, Tuesday 4th February, Tuesday 11th February.
Term 3: Tuesday 25th February, Tuesday 3rd March, Tuesday 10th March
Term 4: Tuesday 17th March, Tuesday 24th March, Tuesday 31st March
The home education classes are on a Wednesday daytime 1.30-2.30pm.
Term 3: Wednesday 26th February, Wednesday 4th March, Wednesday 11th March
Term 4: Wednesday 18th March, Wednesday 25th March, Wednesday 1st April
This group has a maximum of 3 children. An adult must stay with your child or children for at least the first week while your child settles in. This is just a safety precaution to ensure that if a child is struggling they aren't at risk of sewing their fingers! It will also ensure they get the most out of the group. We have free refreshments, WiFi and comfy sofas for the parents to relax whilst the class runs.
The recommended age for this class is 8+ although parents will generally have a better idea of whether their child is ready. If you think your child is ready for the group you are welcome to give it a try. The important thing is that they will be sensible when using the sewing machine so as not to injure themselves, Other than that, being able to sit still and listen to instructions are key.
